How to
hire a Disc Jockey
7 Questions to ask your DJ
- Are you hiring a professional DJ or
an amateur? With the popularity of downloaded music, today most anyone can call themselves a
"disc jockey". Look out for mega companies who advertise a low
price, then subcontract your event to a last-minute moonlighter.
Confirm the experience of the exact person who will be at
your event and have them put their name into
the contract. You don't want your once-in-a-lifetime event to turn
into an on-the-job training classroom!
- Will your DJ use professional
equipment? It takes more than big speakers to make great
sound. Look for the big names like Mackie, Denon, JBL,
Pioneer, Gemini. Will your DJ use CD's or a computer? Ask if
the DJ's computer is enhanced with a special sound card, necessary for
best sound reproduction over big speakers. A wireless microphone is
also a must, especially for wedding toasts and announcements.
